Worldbuilder Submissions

This guide is intended to assist members with creating vivid and inter-connected background stories within the Camarilla Fan Club’s Masquerade genre. This guide will be used any time a character spent any amount of time in a geographic area that is not currently controlled by the US Camarilla, a Camarilla affiliate, or a GIR domain. History within those areas must be cleared by that areas presiding storyteller.

The Worldbuilder submission process is detailed below. For feedback, concerns, or questions regarding the Masquerade Worldbuilder process, please contact the AMST Masquerade directly. The AAMST Worldbuilder and any associated Project Leads are volunteers who handle submissions only. They are not there to accept feedback and, most importantly, they are not available for abuse. Any abuse targeted at these volunteers will lead to immediate disciplinary action from the AMST Masquerade.

Please note that clan specific locations such as Alamut for Assamites, Vienna for Tremere, and Venice for Giovanni are Low Approval for members of that clan to have visited or lived within. This remains Low Approval as long as the PC has not altered history, interacted with canon NPC’s, or had a noticeable (by other characters) impact. If the PC in question has altered history or made a noticeable impact, the normal application process applies. Those approvals are required from the appropriate Storyteller chain before final sign-off from Worldbuilder Team. If you have any questions about what may or may not fall under this clause, please contact the AMST Masquerade.

Worldbuilder Submission Guideline

  1. Before asking a question or submitting your character timeline, review the FAQ.
  2. Characters seeking Worldbuilder aspects in their background must have their Low Approval before submission.
  3. Email the completed Masquerade Worldbuilding Template to masq.worldbuilder@mst-office.net. You will receive an acknowledgment that your submission was received. This phase is intended to give initial clearance to submit your character for approval (though the approvals database). Please indicate if your character requires approval above Low.
  4. If the character requires only Low Approval, the Worldbuilder team will either give final sign-off or any changes that need to be made for final sign-off.
  5. If you character requires approval above Low, you will either be given initial clearance to continue with the approvals process, or you will be given any changes that need to be made to the history. Once you have received clearance from the AAMST Worldbuilder you may continue the approvals process, including the clearance in your approval. At this point, you character has not been fully signed off by the Worldbuilder team, only given initial clearance that their history is valid at the time of clearance.
  6. Once the character has been approved, resubmit a corrected Masquerade Worldbuilding Template to masq.worldbuilder@mst-office.net if changes were made. If no changes were made, contact the Worldbuilder Team and inform them of the character’s approval. You will either receive final sign-off on the timeline or any changes that need to be made (due to adjustments between the clearance and final sign-off phases). At this point, the submission cannot be rejected outright, but minor changes may need to be made.
  7. Your character info will be added to Worldbuilder assets such as city, NPC, or other assets. Do not edit the Worldbuilder assets yourself.
  8. Step by step instructions of how to submit to Worldbuilder can be found here: How to Worldbuilder

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the current affiliates?

A: Canada, Australia, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Brazil, Spain and the GIR (the U.K., Greece, the Netherlands, and Japan)

Q: Can I be a current Prince/Archbishop of a Dark Place?

A: No.

Q: What about just currently being a resident of a Dark Place?

A: This is possible, however it is not recommended. Every time you wish to do something in your place of residence, you will be required to send it all the way up through your ST chain to the AMST Masquerade. This is very time consuming, and may take a long while to get a response. We advise that your current place of residence be in such a place that has it’s own overseeing ST.

Q: Do I really need to follow the template?

A: Yes, otherwise you will be asked to submit it again, with the correct template. It will save everyone a lot of time and energy to just submit it with the correct template in the first place.

Q: Do you want my Worldbuilder Submission as a file attachment?

A: No, please do not send us your Submissions as an attachment. Please include them in the body of your email. If you send it as an attachment, you will be asked to resubmit it.

Q: Do I need to enter my Worldbuilder submission into the Approvals Database?

A: No, no part of the Worldbuilder submission needs to be entered into the Approvals Database. Email your completed template to masq.worldbuilder@mst-office.net as well as all following correspondence. The character timeline submitted to the Worldbuilder Team is only final when the character is approved through the proper Storyteller Approvals Process and a final sign-off is given from the Worldbuilder Team.

Q: Do you need to see my entire timeline and background?

A: No. All the Worldbuilding Team needs is the timeline information for the places which you are seeking acceptance for that are under our purview. See the template for an example.

For periods of time where you were not in a defined city or country (such as leaving room open for character ties), please do not submit that piece until you have them set in stone. It is much easier for the Worldbuilding Team to add something on, then it is to go back and change something.

Q: I want to have interactions with famous mortals. This includes having them as direct ancestors (IE, son or daughter of), or being their direct ancestor (anywhere down the line). Whose approval do I need?

A: If the mortal in question is a local celebrity only, and had no effect outside of your Domain, it would either be up to your VST or DST. If the mortal in question was a regional figure, it will require High approval. A national celebrity would require Top approval, and world-wide known celebrities and historical figures require Global approval. If said mortal is under the jurisdiction of the Worldbuilding Team, then you will contact us with your approval number so we can include you in our record keeping.

Q: I am going to play a 6th and pick a Sire from the Lineage Project. Do I submit my background to you as well?

A: Once you have an approved Sire from the Lineage Project (gotten the go ahead from your ANST), you may send in your submission to the Worldbuilder Team.
