This guide represents the adaptation of the published materials on both the Red List itself and those that hunt them, the Alastors. The Red List contains the criminals, called Anathema, that represent the greatest threat to the Camarilla as a whole. These criminals are considered to be under a perpetual Blood Hunt in every Camarilla territory. All Sect members are expected to do their part to bring these criminals to justice. Any found assisting or harboring these criminals will be considered traitors to the sect and will be killed themselves.
Getting on the List
It is not enough to simply be a criminal to the Camarilla or an enemy to sect. These are the monsters amongst monsters, the greatest of threats. Entire Clans have offered Trophy for these criminals and at least two Justicars must agree to the prosecution. Once a Vampire has been added to the Red List, the only way off is death.
Typically, the Clan Head of a clan brings the petition for a character to be added to the Red List to the respective Justicars (usually at a Conclave or larger gathering).
Adding a character (player or non player) to the Red List requires Master Approval.
The Trophy
Destroying an Anathema automatically enrolls the destroyer (and only the destroyer, those that helped get nothing) into the ranks of the Alastors and receives the Trophy.
The Trophy (sometimes cynically called the Mark of the Beast) is a tattoo of ink and blood on the right palm, usually hidden with gloves, as the tattoo (unlike normal tattoos) never leaves the flesh. The Trophy mark is instantly recognizable to high-ranking Archons, Justicars, and Vampires with Camarilla Lore x4 (or higher). It is also said that this mark also makes traitor Alastors instantly locatable even if this hand is removed.
There are other rewards to Trophy, not the least of which is the recognition and immunity from local laws during the hunt.
Other rewards given for Trophy may include:
- Immunity from Blood Hunts (usually for a defined period of time).
- Removal of all current Blood Bonds.
- Permission to create progeny.
- Financial or territorial rewards.
- Sanctioned diablerie (extremely rare and does not prevent a Prince’s wrath at being a diablerist)
- Instruction in rare or secret Disciplines.
- Amnesty for past transgressions.
- Unique or personal domain havens.
- Highly skilled or unique retainers.
Not all Alastors receive all of these rewards, and they are not all announced.
Note that the hunting of the Red List is not a duty restricted to the Alastors. It is theoretically every Camarilla vampire’s duty to hunt these monsters, as they are all considered to be under permanent and universal blood hunt. It is simply that the Alastors are provided with the resources and support to make a full-time go of it.
It is Top Approval to portray an Alastor.
The List
Angelo, The Blood Brother
Clan: Blood Brother
Crimes: The Camarilla became aware of Angelo after he slew a number of vampires in the Northeast. Because of his death-dealing skills, there have been accusations that he must. be an Assamite, or that he is Sabbat. Some believe he is a Tzimisce. The Tremere clan wants him and is willing to pay dearly for his body, or barring that, his blood.
Trophy Clan
The Tremere have discovered interesting things about Angelo. They would dearly love to get hold of him and study what makes him tick. They are doing all that they can get a sample of his blood to analyze.
Rabbat, The Plague Bearer
Clan: Nosferatu
Crimes: Fleas that transmitted The Black Death in Europe in the 14th century still live on Rabbat’s body.
Trophy Clan
Rabbat’s own clan has offered trophy on her, although that is set to expire at the 2011 Conclave.
Ossian, The Abomination
Clan: Unknown (Gangrel?)
Crimes: Beyond his personal penchant for destroying Kindred, Ossian’s presence has a tendency to draw Werewolves from their own locations and territories, setting them loose to hunt in areas occupied by vampires. The combination of these dangerous penchants have earned Ossian it’s place on the Red List.
Trophy Clan
Ventrue
Ferox, the Heretic
Clan: Gargoyle
Crimes: The Gargoyle’s unabashedly public stalking and destruction of Kindred (particularly of the Nosferatu) have drawn the eyes of mortal authorities on more than one occasion. With his daring comes a creeping fear in the hearts of all Kindred that Ferox’ activities might bring about a new Inquisition if he is not quelled.
Trophy Clan
Nosferatu
Tariq, the Damned
Clan: Assamite
Crimes: During his escape just after the conclusion of the Convention of Thorns Tariq is known to have killed a number of the Camarilla’s influential Elders. His reputation as an unwavering enemy to the Sect and a killer nearly without rival only go to reinforce the reason this Vampire has been added to the Red List.
Trophy Clan
Brujah
Valerius Maior, the infernalist
Clan: Tremere
Crimes: Maior is known to be an absolute threat to the Sect not only for his explorations and pursuits with the Infernal but due to his loyalty to the Sabbat. Somehow surviving the apparent purge of the Tremere antitribu, Maior’s apprehension is known to be a top priority of Clan Tremere.
Trophy Clan
Tremere
Petaniqua, The Corruptor
Clan: Malkavian
Crimes: No single vampire can said to have committed more direct and attributed crimes to destabilize the Ivory Tower than Petaniqua. Corrupting and sewing dissent into every crevice of those she encounters, her sedition truly knows no bounds.
Trophy Clan
Malkavian
Kemintiri, the Impostor
Clan: Follower of Set
Crimes: The most loathed and pursued Kindred on the Red List, the crimes of the Imposter are almost far too numerous to mention. Chief among those detestable acts, however, is Kemintiri’s impersonation of the Ventrue Justicar and her subsequent murder of dozens of loyal Kindred during that rouse.
